چکیده

In our previous investigation (NAKAYAMA and MORI, 1967)9) on the reflex responses by distention of the gall bladder and biliary tracts on the movements of the stomach and small intestine, it was reported that afferent pathways from the gall bladder and biliary tracts may be contained in the thoracic and lumbar splanchnic nerves. Recently HAZARIKA et al. (1964)4) have found that the sensory nerve fibers from the gall bladder enter the spinal cord not only through the dorsal roots of the 2nd to the 10th thoracic segments but also through the phrenic nerves. It has been verified by some investigators that the phrenic nerve receives the sensory nerves from the diaphragmatic peritoneum (DAvis and POLLOCK, 19361); LITTLE and MCSWINEY, 19386); HINSEY and PHILLIP, 1940)5), and the reflex responses to stimulation of the phrenic nerve on the pupils (LITTLE and MCSWINEY, 19386)), bronchus (THORNTON, 1937)12), blood vessels or blood pressure (SCHREIBER, 1883"); GREENE, 1935)3) were investigated. The present communication deals with the reflex responses on the movements of the stomach and small intestine produced by electric stimulation of the central cut end of the phrenic nerve.

Protective effects of an interaction between vagus nerve and melatonin on gastric ischemia/reperfusion: the role of oxidative stress

Objectives:Vagal pathways in gastrointestinal tract are the most important pathways that regulate ischemia/reperfusion (I/R).  Gastrointestinal tract is one of the important sources of melatonin production. The aim of this study was to investigate probable protective effect of the interaction between vagus nerve and melatonin after I/R. Materials and methods:This study was performed in male rat...

Digestive system anatomy of the Acipenser persicus: New features

Sturgeon is one of the most important species of the Caspian Sea aquatics. Unfortunately, this species faces the threat of extinction today. This makes specific studies on any type of sturgeons more important than before. Studies like histological studies, radiology, and sonography, all require a complete understanding of the anatomy of this fish. Since pilot studies showed some misconceptions ...

A comparison of pneumotorax and phrenic nerve pulsy complications using the methods: supraclavicular nerve block, routine and ten degree cephalic route

Background: Supraclavicular nerve block is a method for upper limb surgery in Anesthesiology. In this method that is common for supraclavicular block, injection anesthesia on the first rib and it has complications such as pneumothorax, phrenic never pulsy, infection, intra spinal injection. In this study injection with a 10 degree cephalic side as compared with the first rib in order to decreas...

Objective(s) Ziziphora clinopodioides Lam. is a plant widely used in Iranian traditional medicine for gastrointestinal disorders. Several reports have demonstrated antibacterial (Helicobacteria pylori), antioxidant and anti‌inflammatory properties of Z. clinopodioides. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of aqueous- ethanol extract of Z. clinopodioides on rat’s gastric acid ou...
